This project is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Mendip Hills in Somerset. A 200 Sq.m extension sits in contrast with the existing 18th century farmhouse. Energy measures that include solar panels and ground source heating are incorporated in the design that also address environmental issues surrounding sustainability.

The structure of the new build extension is green oak frame presenting oak posts, trusses, and exposed rafters internally as the focal aspect of the interior. This theme of oak is echoed elsewhere in the design with oak cladding and external joinery.

This interesting site enabled the change in levels in the landscape to provide a living space at first floor that uses the roof of the garage as a terrace extending the space of the living room to the outside. 3D Modelling enabled the client to fully engage with the design and to appreciate what the finished building will be like to live in.
