Design Process

Initial meeting

An initial consultation meeting will be arranged to look at the site, discuss your requirements and ideas, and discuss the feasibility of the project.  Following the meeting a design brief will be sent to you with recommendations that would meet your requirements and a fee proposal provided for each stage of the work.

During the current COVID-19 restrictions this consultation can be either carried out by telephone or video meeting.

An existing building and site survey will be required in order for detailed proposals to be developed. Quotations will be obtained from surveyors and submitted to you for your consideration.  Guidance will be given and a recommendation made to appoint the surveyor.

Scheme Design

Based on the survey, conceptual ideas are developed.  These are initially explored with hand drawn ideas and sketches to consider alternatives designs that would meet your brief.  These proposed options are then put forward for your consideration.  As the project moves forward the chosen scheme is then developed in 3D software to provide a clear understanding of the proposed solution.   Your responses and further ideas are then used to develop a finalised design.

Planning Permission

Larger extensions and new build will require a planning application.  The proposal is developed into design drawings and documents including a design and access statement where required and any reports requested by the planning department.

Building Regulations approval

In this stage projects that have planning approval are developed into technical design drawings that will meet building regulations approval.

Detail Design

n addition to Building Regulations drawings, recommended add-on services can be provided that include full working drawings & details with the options of providing lighting design & electrical layout, door and window schedules, project specification & schedule of works.

We can advise on building contractors that are best suited to the nature of your project and can assist with obtaining quotations or tenders for the construction.
